On the Tee with ForeTees

Spring is here and so is the latest edition of "On the Tee with ForeTees".  It's great to see the early start that most of the clubs are experiencing for the new season.  Here in Minnesota many of the private clubs opened in March and that hasn't occurred in the last ten years.  Let's hope this is a good sign for a fantastic golf season for all of our ForeTees accounts.  Here are some of the items that will be covered in this newsletter:

    1.  A review of our newest features, including the new Tee Sheet Notes box;
    2.  An update on Guest Tracking;
    3.  An important reminder about Member Score Posting;
    4.  A Bio of our Western Sales Director, Larry Aspenson;
    5.  New statistical information;
    6.  And more...

Please feel free to forward this newsletter to your fellow staff members.  Thank you and enjoy!

New Features
We are proud to announce the addition of the following great new features.

Remember:  For more information simply click on the "New Features" link at the top of your ForeTees page.

You can also now view these newsletters simply by clicking on the "Newsletters" link next to the New Features link at the top of your ForeTees page.

Tee Sheet Notes
This new feature is available on our ForeTees Tee Time System.  Now, staff members can more easily keep in touch with each other by entering notations to each other at the top of the daily tee sheet.  These notes will be viewable by pro shop users only and will follow the tee sheet indefinitely, allowing you to view them under Old Sheets as well.  This feature will assist the staff in relaying important notes to each other throughout the day without the worry of losing or misplacing notes written on paper.

The Tee Sheet Notes box is located just under the calendars on the tee sheet page.  You should see a green box titled "Golf Shop Tee Sheet Notes".   If there are no notes entered for that day, the box will be empty.  To add notes, simply click on the title.  This opens the box and you can then type in your notes after placing the cursor in the white space within the box.  When done entering the notes, click on "Save Tee Sheet Notes" to save them.  Notice that this save button turns yellow to remind you as soon as you start typing.  You can add or change notes anytime.

Remember, only proshop users can see these notes.  The members will not have access to them.

Guest Tracking
A new guest tracking feature will be Beta tested on April 19th and we hope to release it to our member clubs in the very near future.  This exciting new feature will allow you to track the guests that visit your club by creating a database of the guests' names, email address, and other information.  In addition to providing a great tracking tool, this feature will also allow you to follow up with your guests and better market your club to them.

Watch for a future announcement of the release of this great new feature.

An Important Tip from the Staff - Score Posting
In order to have accuracy in the Score Posting Reports on ForeTees, it is important that you ask your members to make sure they indicate the date that the score was actually shot when posting their score.  If a date is not specified, the GHIN system will assume it is shot on the day posted, instead of the actual day when the member played.   This would then lead to inaccuracy in this important report.

Western Regional Director - Larry Aspenson
Larry Aspenson, our Western Regional Director, started playing golf at age 10 in Rockford, Illinois.  He quickly developed a passion for the game and by age 12 decided he wanted to somehow make a living in the golf industry.  He first thought of the tour but after high school realized he was not going to play golf for a living.  About that time the first Professional Golf Management program started at Ferris State University and Larry was accepted into the first spring PGM class in 1976.

After internships in Illinois, Florida and Oregon he settled into life in Portland and eventually became the Head Professional at Waverley Country Club in 1988.  After a total of 15 years at Waverley, Larry left in 1993 to form a partnership with Steve Graves of Creative Golf Marketing, a Kansas based membership marketing firm.

After 2 years with Creative Golf Marketing, Larry returned to Portland and became the co-founder and Executive Director of The Children's Course, a non-profit venture to provide opportunities for disadvantaged and at-risk youth to learn golf and its core values.  After facilitating the raising of over $1 million in charitable contributions to purchase the golf course, Larry stayed on as the E.D. for 5 years to oversee operations and program development.  "I have had the opportunity to pursue a few avenues in the industry, I would have to say my work with The Children's Course was the most rewarding."

Upon leaving The Children's Course, Larry worked at Eldorado Country Club in Indian Wells, California for 2 seasons and as a result learned of ForeTees.  "ForeTees had about 20 clients at the time but I felt the company had tremendous potential.  Now, after seven years of working with the outstanding team at ForeTees, I believe I have made my final career move and ended up with the best job I have ever had!"

Larry currently lives in Boise Idaho with his wife Jeri and sons Cole and Michael (ages 7 & 13).

Some Interesting Statistics Including Over 25 Million Logins
ForeTees recently passed a very significant milestone.  Club members have logged into ForeTees over 25 million times since the company began processing tee times in 2002.  This number represents almost 200,000 different club members logging onto the system from across the country.

Our Mobile logins are increasing too, as our clubs in the northern United States begin operations for the new season.  So, far 72% of our private facilities have enabled their systems in order to make it possible for members to make tee times over their mobile devices.  The iPhone is still the #1 choice for members making tee times via the smart phones with 65% choosing this Apple product.

Congratulations
Dick Walters, PGA Professional at Wayzata C.C. in Wayzata, Minnesota, was named the Minnesota PGA Golf Professional of the Year for 2009.   This selection was made over the winter and did not make it into our February newsletter.  Congratulations, Dick, from all of us at ForeTees.
